Driving people to a website is one of the fundamentals of internet marketing. Unfortunately, many people waste a lot of time and effort thinking that just having a website means they have a successful internet marketing strategy. The bottom line is if you haven’t set a strategy or used an established one to test it then you probably don’t have a successful strategy. The following are some steps you can take that will improve your marketing strategies.
Display An Opt-In Box On Your Site
First impressions are important – whether you are selling something or networking with people. That is why it is so important that you ensure that your site looks and feels attractive. In addition you should also have a sign-up box on every page that allows people to put in their email details to receive further info from you, news, special offers etc.
When you gather information it could be that somebody gives you their email details so that they can receive further info or products from you. The way you collect these data is to have them opt-in to a newsletter or some other communication. The opt-in box should be clearly contained on your website so that the viewer automatically fills in their name, email and any other details they wish to enter. This process is known as a double opt-in and helps to increase the numbers of subscribers rather than collecting email addresses without any purpose.
Ask For Reviews
The more you ask, the more likely that users will buy something from you. They may also give you information about the market so that you can improve your expertise and market to the audience. Ask for reviews, comments and what you can do better. The more you can provide as a customer, the more likely it will be to convert.
Keywords used on your website can get you to rank well in regular searches and help people find you on other websites. Keywords are words and phrases that customers enter into search boxes of the search engines to find what they are looking for. If you are selling organic products then the option of entering the word ‘organic’ into the search bar would not result in anything relevant. It is important to use keywords that are relevant to the content of the site. This increases the chance that the site will be found by people using search engines as those sites come up first. By using these keywords they may find your site even has more relevant information or products.
Give People Something That They Want
As well as using keywords on your website you should optimise your website by using specific keywords for each page. For example, the page about houses and Houses I recently optimised and the page I am writing about right now is the Houses page. You can also use space in your text to use long tail keywords. For example, on the Houses page I use the word ‘houses’ but not ‘houses for sale’. This may result in a customer entering the word ‘houses’ when looking for something like ‘houses for sale’ or ‘houses for sale’. If we again do a detailed analysis of the keywords used in this example, you will see the chances of this word appearing in the right order and typed in by a potential customer are slightly reduced but they are still more likely than ‘houses for sale’. Use keywords to drive people to a specific webpage and also to the page that people want to go to. If people want to go to a page about houses you can direct them to that page and not the page about houses for sale.
Track The Data
Keeping track of the data from keyword optimization and activities like link building is very important to figuring out what is working well and what may be losing you money. Google Analytics is a free tool for tracking this data. One of the biggest mistakes I see marketers make is to ‘cram their head’ with marketing activities and figure out what is working and what isn’t. At the end of the day you should have a marketing strategy that is working and that means you need to keep track of what you are doing.
Article submissions are another key tactic to knowing what is and isn’t working and what you can still change for the better. It is well known that content is king and most of the webmasters now know this fact too. By submitting articles to directories like EzineArticles one way that you can get links to your website is to place a resource box about your website. If they are good enough they will stand out in search engines and drive traffic to your site. Your articles should not simply sell; use content to educate your readers properly and help them with their problem.
Social marketing has become a mainstay in marketing strategy especially since the rise in the popularity of social media. You can be extremely helpful for your marketing strategy by creating backlinks, through interactive content, post in forums, put up videos etc to your articles, blogs and website.
